Susquehanna River Basin Commission Announces Stream and Watershed Enhancement Grant Opportunity – Technologist

Press release shared by Susquehanna River Basin Commission (SRBC), August 5, 2024.

Following a successful inaugural year, the Susquehanna River Basin Commission (SRBC) is opening a second round of their Stream & Watershed Enhancement Grant program to support local organizations dedicated to the health and wellness of our local waterways.

The grant program provides funding for community-based environmental and water resource projects or events that improve, restore or protect our Basin’s watersheds. First year awardees included an ADA-accessible boat launch, water trail signage, microplastics monitoring, water rescue equipment, a pollinator meadow and many more basin-benefitting projects.

“From youth educational programs that inspire the next generation of watershed stewards to community gardens that help to feed environmental justice neighborhoods, we were extremely impressed with round one’s applicants,” said SRBC Executive Director Andrew Dehoff. “At a time when small watershed groups, who just want to better the community they live in, tend to struggle financially, we are thrilled to be able to offer some help.”

SRBC anticipates awarding approximately $150,000 in total grant funds, with an individual project cap of $5,000. The application period opens on August 7th and will close October 31st, 2024. Awards will be announced this December.

Watershed groups, county and municipal governments, school districts, and non-profit organizations are all eligible applicants. Summaries of the 34 projects awarded grant funding in 2023 can be reviewed on our website. Projects that offer an intersection between watershed support and engagement with environmental justice areas will be prioritized.

“We believe our application process is fairly simple and streamlined,” added Dehoff. “But for further assistance, we will be hosting informational webinars on August 21st and October 16th, as well as offering direct technical assistance on specific dates during the open application window.”
